On June 10, 2026, at approximately 4:53 P.M., Saint Paul Officers responded to the 1300 block of Edgerton Street, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on an in-progress assault. The 911 caller reported that roommate was hit with the back of a gun and his head was split open. The suspect was described as a Somali male wearing a gray t-shirt with backpack. Officers arrived and were approached by multiple people. The injured person was identified as JWD. JWD was inside the house in the kitchen sitting on the floor with his back against the wall.
JWD’s girlfriend, NP, was standing next to JWD. JWD had a horizontal laceration on the back of his head approximately one and half inches long. The laceration was fresh and bleeding. JWD was going in and out of consciousness. An officer applied gauze and pressure to the laceration. Medics arrived and transported JWD to the hospital. JWD spoke to an officer. He said a male he does not know was harassing one of his roommates, AMS. The male followed AMS to the residence on Edgerton. JWD was inside the house and heard yelling and shouting.
He went outside and found AMS and two other roommates speaking with the male. JWD went to the sidewalk to learn what was going on. The male pulled out a black and gray handgun and pointed it at everyone, including him. The male said something like, “I’ll kill you motherfuckers! I don’t give a f***…I’m American.” JWD said he was going to go inside. As he turned to go away, he felt a hard hit on the back of his head. He did not look back and quickly ran into the house. After the adrenaline went away, he felt the pain at the back of his head.
The suspect male was later identified in the investigation as ZAHARIYA MOHAMUD MOHAMUD, [DOB REDACTED]. AMS said she was in the yard when MOHAMUD (identified in investigation) walked past her car that was parked on Edgerton. MOHAMUD appeared to look inside her car. Her keys and personal belongings were in her car so she was uncomfortable with him looking inside. She made a statement to him and he responded by calling her names and asking her if she ever saw a Black guy before. They argued back and forth.
MOHAMUD walked south on Edgerton and then walked north again. He stopped near her car and began to reach into a backpack. She walked up to her vehicle to retrieve her keys. MOHAMUD said something about her walking up on him. JB (this male was not on scene when police were present) got involved and began arguing with MOHAMUD. MOHAMUD charged at JB. MOHAMUD “whip[ped] out a gun” and pointed it at JB. AMS described the gun as a silver 22mm or 9mm. Witness TML said she was in the yard when she noticed the suspect (identified in investigation as MOHAMUD) walk south on Edgerton.
MOHAMUD walked past her friend’s, AMS’s, vehicle, and it appeared he was looking inside. As he walked past, he made a comment toward AMS, “What, you’ve never seen a black guy before.” AMS and MOHAMUD exchanged words back and forth. MOHAMUD walked down the street, and returned. As he passed the home, he stared at the people that were outside. JB (not on scene when police were present) asked MOHAMUD if he could help him. JB and MOHAMUD exchanged words back and forth. MOHAMUD swung on JB, backed up, and continued to walk north on Edgerton.
