On January 6, 2023, BX reported he was driving a gray 2023 Toyota Tacoma, and was the only occupant. A person drove a black 2016 Honda Pilot with Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. BX and the Honda Pilot traveled in the same direction near I-494 and Highway 61, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey. The Honda Pilot was tailgating his vehicle. BX exited to northbound Highway 61 and negotiated a curve. The Honda Pilot was still behind him. BX had to apply his brakes due to the curve in the road. Both vehicles drove north on Highway 61, east on Lower Afton, and both stopped at the red light.
The driver of the Honda Pilot stared at him. BX rolled down his window, and said, “What’s up?” The vehicles continued on Lower Afton. The Honda Pilot got in front of him. The driver of the Honda Pilot was the only person in the vehicle. The suspect/driver waved a firearm at him. BX knew it was a firearm because he is a hunter. The driver never pointed the gun at him, but waved it instead. BX described the suspect as a White male, possibly in his thirties, wearing a black cap. The Honda Pilot registered to DARRELL STEPHEN SCHUSTER, [DOB REDACTED], [ADDRESS REDACTED], Woodbury.
Deputies went to this address on January 6th and observed SCHUSTER with a black ball cap exit the garage and walk to the backyard of the house. The Honda Pilot was parked in the driveway. Investigator Kubat told SCHUSTER why he was there. SCHUSTER spoke with Investigator Kubat. He said he was driving the Honda Pilot in the area of I-494 and Highway 61. SCHUSTER said there was no road rage incident. He said the only incident he could think of was another vehicle was driving over 90 mph, cut him off, almost striking him.
SCHUSTER asked if there was any video because it was his word against the other person. SCHUSTER asked if he was under arrest. Investigator Kubat advised him of his Miranda rights. SCHUSTER said he did not interact with the other person (BX), did not point fingers, did not yell and did not use his vehicle aggressively. SCHUSTER said BX had some anger issues. SCHUSTER said he wanted to get away because he was scared. BX crossed two lanes and followed him onto Lower Afton. The vehicles arrived at a stop light.
The other vehicle was in the left turn lane and he was in the lane to travel straight. BX looked at him like, “What’s going on?” The light turned green and BX merged to follow him. SCHUSTER said he was “in fear of his life.” SCHUSTER admitted he had a phone in his hand and took a picture of the other vehicle. SCHUSTER said he does not have a gun and does not own any handguns. When asked if the vehicle could be searched, SCHUSTER said no. SCHUSTER was told a warrant would be sought and the vehicle would be towed.
SCHUSTER then said he owned a projectile launcher, an air pistol self-defense weapon. SCHUSTER said he did not know if it was still in the vehicle or inside the house. SCHUSTER said he never showed the projectile launcher to BX. He said he only held his phone in his hand. Eventually, SCHUSTER agreed to give the investigator the projectile launcher and retrieved in from the 2 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 1/29/2026 back pocket of the front passenger seat of the Honda Pilot.
