Officers met with an adult female (“Victim”) at her residence. Officers could immediately see that Victim had injuries to her face. Her left eye was bruised and her nose and lip had wounds that were scabbing over. Victim [NAME REDACTED] has been in a romantic relationship with Justus William Pomeroy, [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant”) for two years. They previously lived together. Victim [NAME REDACTED] into a verbal argument with Defendant when they were driving home. The Argument continued when they got to Victim’s residence in the City of Winona.
Defendant lunged at Victim, [NAME REDACTED] into Victim’s throat, and slammed her against the wall. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had his hand against her throat for approximately five seconds. Victim recovered and began recording Defendant on her phone. Defendant then began punching Victim [NAME REDACTED]. He punched her at least ten times. One of the punches caused victim to fall to the floor. Officers could see blood on the floor and the wall where Victim [NAME REDACTED]. The clothes Victim [NAME REDACTED] had blood stains.
Defendant eventually stopped punching Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Victim [NAME REDACTED] from the punches as an 11 out of 10. She also described having neck pain and being worried about having a concussion. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was afraid of Defendant when he was punching her. She told Officers that Defendant has been a professional boxer for sixteen years. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was going to seek medical care at the hospital. Officers located Defendant sitting in his motor vehicle in a mall parking lot.
Officers used their vehicles to box Defendant’s car in place. Defendant was placed under arrest for the assault. Defendant was transported to the Winona County Jail without incident. At the jail, Officers took photographs of injuries of Defendant’s hands. Defendant claimed he had just been boxing at the gym, and the state of his hands may be different than previously. A search of Defendant’s criminal history shows two convictions for qualified domestic violence-related offenses: 4th Degree assault on 03/24/2023 (••-CR-••-••••) and 4th Degree Assault on 03/24/2023 (••-CR-••-••••).
