On October 25, 2025, Bloomington Police Officers were dispatched on a call regarding a fight that took place at McDonalds on [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Bloomington, Hennepin County. Officers arrived and observed an adult male, hereinafter "Victim," with blood all over the front of his face and on his shirt. Victim also had a small cut over his right eye. Victim [NAME REDACTED] at McDonalds with some friends. They started to get into an argument and MICHAEL JOHN SCHMITT, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "Defendant," pushed him down on the bench.
Defendant then punched him in the face six times with his fist. He told Defendant to get away, and he eventually left the restaurant. Victim was then transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Officers talked with another person at the table. He stated Defendant pushed Victim [NAME REDACTED], pinning him down and punching his face several times. Victim tried to get Defendant off of him but did not fight Defendant back. He observed Defendant leaving in a gray Jeep. Officers also spoke with another patron across the restaurant.
He saw the Defendant pin the Victim down with his right arm across Victim's chest while striking him with a closed fist three to four times in the face. Officers spoke with the Defendant later on the telephone. He admitted he lost his temper and got physical with Victim when he should not have. He said he hit him in the head and pushed him. Defendant stated he broke his own hand in the process. He expressed remorse and hoped Victim gained a full recovery. Investigators obtained medical records from this incident regarding Victim.
A facial bone CT scan of Victim showed a mildly displaced bilateral nasal bone fracture, a nondisplaced fracture of the anterior vomer, and a small layering hemorrhage in the left maxillary sinus. Victim also required two sutures for the cuts he sustained on his face.
