On January 10, 2026, at approximately 8:42 P.M., Deputy Colton Odash was traveling southbound on South Main Avenue in New York Mills, a location in Otter Tail County. Deputy Odash observed a northbound traveling Dodge Grand caravan. Deputy Odash ran the vehicle's information in his squad car and learned that the registered owner Jennifer Hariluk had a revoked driving status and has past contacts associated with illegal narcotics. Deputy Odash was unable to see who was operating the motor vehicle.
Deputy Odash turned his squad car around an attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and continued to travel 50 miles per hour until it drove off the roadway near the address of 38313 520th Avenue. Deputy Odash issued commands and ultimately a male driver emerged from the driver's side area. The driver was placed in handcuffs and later identified as Jacob Hariluk, the above-named defendant. A glass bubble pipe was located outside of the vehicle. Based on his training and experience, Deputy Odash knew that style of pipe to be used with the ingestion of methamphetamine.
A search of the vehicle produced a white crystalline substance located on the floorboard of the driver's area. The substance later field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 5.4 grams. The defendant was read his Miranda warning and he stated he understood his rights. When asked if he was trying to avoid law enforcement, the defendant stated "Kind of. I know I had a warrant, and I know you guys were looking for me." Deputy Odash confirmed the presence of active warrants for the defendant from Otter Tail and Becker County.
The defendant further admitted he threw the bubble pipe out of the vehicle, but claimed to not know about the methamphetamine. The defendant's driving status was revoked. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49., intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
