On March 2, 2026, at approximately 10:12 A.M., Minneapolis Police officers were dispatched to a call initially reported as a “retrieve property,” which was later updated to a burglary of a dwelling at [ADDRESS REDACTED], [APT REDACTED], in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers observed a male later identified as Deshawn Eugene Yarbrough ([DOB REDACTED], hereafter “Defendant”) and a female matching the suspect description. Officers observed the two walking north on LaSalle Avenue and entering an Uber vehicle in front of the listed address.
Officers ordered the female out of the vehicle. The female stated that she and Defendant had signed over a tax return check in the amount of $5,000 to an acquaintance (hereafter “Victim 1”), who was supposed to cash the check and return the money to them because they did not have valid identification. Defendant and Victim 1 had been communicating and planned to cash the check that day. However, Victim 1 and his girlfriend (hereafter “Victim 2”) did not want Defendant’s girlfriend to accompany them, stating it would “cause problems.” When Defendant and his girlfriend arrived at the residence, Victim 1 and Victim 2 refused to open the door.
Defendant’s girlfriend called 911 to request assistance retrieving the check/money but did not wait for officers to arrive. While the call was still pending, Defendant began banging on the door and demanding entry. When Victim 1 and Victim 2 refused, Defendant kicked in the door and entered the unit without permission. Once inside, Defendant engaged in a physical altercation with Victim 1. During the incident, an ASUS ROG Ally X handheld gaming device belonging to Victim 1 was knocked to the ground and damaged, with an approximate value of $1,000. The door and deadbolt were also significantly damaged.
The assault continued briefly until building security intervened and removed Defendant from the unit and building. Portions of the incident, including the forced entry and part of the altercation, were captured on security camera footage in the hallway. Defendant was placed under arrest at the scene, transported to the Hennepin County Jail, and later released. Defendant is currently out of custody.
