On January 17, 2026, at 6:00 A.M. Trooper Helget responded to a report of a rollover crash with a party pinned under the vehicle on westbound I-94 near mile marker 203 in Albertville, Wright County, Minnesota. When Trooper Helget arrived, deputies with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and Albertville Fire and Rescue personnel were working to get a person out from under the vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Abdirizck Hussein Ali, [DOB REDACTED], defendant herein.
The person trapped under the vehicle had been a passenger in the defendant’s vehicle at the time of the rollover crash and was identified as AAD. Trooper Helget noticed tire tracks going off I-94 into the ditch. Trooper Helget noticed the vehicle was on its roof up against the fence alongside I-94 consistent with the vehicle rolling over. Trooper Helget determined the defendant had driven negligently by driving off the interstate and rolling the vehicle. The road conditions were icy with snow blowing across them.
AAD had noticeable facial injuries and blood on his head. AAD was unconscious but was breathing. AAD was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was treated in the intensive care unit. AAD suffered substantial bodily harm by being rendered unconscious from the crash and being trapped under the vehicle. The deputies from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office reported smelling the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the defendant and passenger. The defendant denied drinking alcohol and refused a PBT. The defendant was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in the crash.
Trooper Helget obtained a search warrant authorizing the taking of a blood sample from the defendant. A blood sample was obtained from the defendant pursuant to the warrant. The blood sample was analyzed by the BCA revealing the presence of benzoylecgonine (a metabolite of cocaine), a Schedule II controlled substance.
