Members of the Ramsey County Sheriff Office Apprehension Unit began an investigation into TIMOTHY TERRELL SMITH [DOB REDACTED] who had a warrant for his arrest on drug and gun charges in Ramsey County District Court file ••-CR-••-••••. Deputies learned that Smith was associated with an [APT REDACTED] at [ADDRESS REDACTED], St. Paul, Ramsey County. The landlord said Smith and his son were both staying at [APT REDACTED] at [ADDRESS REDACTED]. Neither was a registered tenant, and they did not have permission to be there.
They had moved the current tenant’s belongings out of the apartment and moved their belongings in. The landlord had made multiple drug complaints to the police regarding Smith and his son. On March 2, 2026, the Honorable Veena Iyer signed a search warrant authorizing law enforcement to search [APT REDACTED] at [ADDRESS REDACTED]. On March 3, 2026, officers executed the search warrant at [APT REDACTED] at [ADDRESS REDACTED], St. Paul, Ramsey County. Smith and his son were both at the apartment when the warrant was executed, and they were taken into custody.
Officers recovered a Colt revolver on a bed in the northernmost bedroom. Officers recovered a Ruger handgun in the dresser of the northernmost bedroom. Officers recovered a Ghost gun without a serial number under the mattress in the northernmost bedroom. Officers also recovered a drug ledger and ammunition. Officers found a vacuum sealer in the kitchen. Officers found a scale with a white powdery substance on it and a bottle of methylsulfonylmethane – a cutting agent for drugs. Smith was advised of his constitutional rights and agreed to speak to a deputy.
Smith said he had been living in [APT REDACTED] at [ADDRESS REDACTED] for 1-2 months. Smith said he primarily stays in the living room, but he uses the northernmost bedroom to store personal items. Smith said a friend had brought the Colt revolver into the apartment. Smith said he had probably touched the revolver and then said he doubted he had touched it. Smith said his son’s friends brought the other handguns into the residence. Smith’s son said he primarily stays in the northernmost bedroom. He denied knowing where the Ruger and Ghost guns came from.
He said his father uses the guns for safety and self-defense. He said his father’s friend left the Colt revolver there. Smith has a prior conviction for possession with intent to deliver 30-50 grams of cannabis from Kankakee County, Illinois that makes him ineligible to possess firearms or ammunition.
