The reporting party (Wal-Mart Asset Protection), Autumn Brook Findley/10-25-1985, advised there were two females inside of the store selecting "big ticket" items. One of the females eventually left the store, leaving a cart full of merchandise near the exit. This female was later identified as Trisha Anne Karelis/03-14-1981. After leaving, Findley was able to confirm that she had stolen a drink and also eaten ice cream inside of the store that she didn't pay for.
Karelis entered a BMW passenger vehicle and waited in the passenger seat. Eventually the second female exited, also leaving her cart inside of the store, next to where Karelis left hers. This female was later identified as Sabrina Jean Mills/10-28-1998 and Mills entered the driver seat and both left the parking lot. Officers located the vehicle and saw that the plate had been altered with black tape. The officers stopped the vehicle. Karelis was ordered out of the car but continued to reach around the interior of the car.
Karelis finally exited the vehicle. Karelis denied stealing anything. Karelis stated she would return to the store and pay for the items. The officer was able to confirm the correct plate on the vehicle was 5013BD, which registered to Karelis. Karelis showed to have a revoked license. Karelis stated she was ill and an ambulance was called. Mills stated the vehicle belonged to Karelis and that the tape was placed on it because Karelis did not have a license. The officer saw a glass pipe in plain view in the area of the center console, with a white substance lining the interior of the pipe, which was consistent with methamphetamine.
Inside the vehicle was a green purse that contained a hypodermic needle, burnt straws, several lighters, two methadone prescriptions addressed to Karelis, and three clear containers. Two of the containers contained an unknown brown substance, the other container contained a white powdery substance. Karelis admitted to the substance beings hers. Karelis was released at the scene. The suspected drugs were sent to the BCA Forensic Laboratory for analysis. On 01/08/2026 the officer received the results of the analysis from the BCA Forensic Laboratory, which showed that the substance tested positive for fentanyl, a Schedule I Controlled Substance, and weighed 3.224 grams.
