On November 29, 2025, at approximately 5:17 A.M., Officer Hansen of the Austin Police Department was dispatched to the Park Pointe Apartments located at 200 11th Avenue NW in the City of Austin, County of Mower, for a report of a stolen vehicle. Officer Hansen arrived and made contact with Victim A (an adult female). Victim A stated that at approximately 5:00 A.M., she went out to start her 2008 Honda Accord (MN license GSG325) so it could warm up. She stated that the vehicle was parked on the east side of the building.
At approximately 5:10 A.M., she went back outside to leave for work and discovered the vehicle was gone. She stated the vehicle was running with the keys in it and the doors unlocked. Victim A completed the stolen vehicle form, and a KOPS alert was issued. At approximately 6:25 A.M., Deputy Meyer was patrolling southbound on 14th Street NW at 18th Avenue NW in the City of Austin, when he observed the stolen vehicle. Meyer followed the vehicle to confirm the plate. As Deputy Meyer turned east on 1st Drive behind the vehicle, Meyer observed it hit the right-side tires on the street curb.
The vehicle then continued on 1st Drive and turned west into the Mayo Clinic parking lot. The vehicle turned in quickly and hit the driver’s side of the vehicle on the parking lot curb. The vehicle then drove west through the parking lot and jumped the curb and sidewalk and continued south on 4th Street. Mayer activated his emergency lights and followed the vehicle over the curb and onto 4th Street. The vehicle slowed and came to a stop on 4th Street and 8th Avenue NW. Deputy Meyer approached the lone driver who identified himself as ADAM ANTHONY NELSON, DOB/021087, the defendant herein.
The defendant advised Meyer that he was driving like that because they were dropping bombs over there and he was scared. Meyer observed the defendant was not making sense. Deputy Meyer asked the defendant to exit the vehicle. Meyer also asked him if the car belonged to him. The defendant said, “no.” The defendant was placed under arrest and Officer Hansen arrived. Deputy Meyer read the defendant the Miranda warning. The defendant stated he understood his rights and agreed to speak with the officers.
The defendant stated that he did not know whose car he was in, but that they just left it there with the lights on and running and went inside. The defendant said the vehicle was at the apartments by Nichol’s, which is located at 100 11th Avenue NW. The defendant said the vehicle was unlocked when he took it. The defendant told the officers that since he took the vehicle, he was driving around trying to figure things out. The defendant advised that he did not talk to the person that left the vehicle running and that no one told him he could take the car.
The defendant said he took the car because he was scared because some of his family members have been kidnapped and something is not right. He stated that he took the vehicle at approximately 5:30 A.M. The defendant was transported to the Mower County Jail. Officer Hansen contacted Victim A’s husband, M. W. K. M. W. K. Confirmed that the defendant did not have permission to take the vehicle. M. W. K. Went into the vehicle and turned over the defendant’s property that was located inside. M. W. K. Informed Hansen that there was damage to the vehicle caused by the defendant, including a dislodged front bumper, a rear driver’s side wheel cover that had been broken, and 2 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 12/1/2025 a large dent above the rear driver’s side wheel.
