On April 2, 2026, at 1910 hours, Woodbury Police Department Detective Adam Olson was patrolling the Country Inn and Suites, located at [address omitted] in Woodbury, Washington County, Minnesota. Det. Olson was in an unmarked police car at the time. This hotel has had a recent influx of narcotics activity which led Det. Olson to patrol the area as part of his Community Impact Unit assignment. As part of his patrol duties, Det. Olson often runs license plate checks on vehicles in the parking lot. At 1910, he observed MN SAM*** (2003 Dodge Durango) pull into the rear parking lot of the building (west side) and park in the upper lot.
The license plate check revealed the vehicle had been involved in a drug arrest by Woodbury Police Department on March 30, 2026. The vehicle parked and the lone occupant remained inside the vehicle. Shortly after the vehicle arrived and parked (within two minutes), an unknown male subject exited the southwest exit of the hotel wearing a bright yellow hooded sweatshirt. The subject appeared to be walking directly toward the parked Dodge Durango as if he was going to meet with the occupant. As the subject exited the hotel it appeared the driver rolled down the driver's side window of the Durango.
As the subject wearing yellow got near the Durango he looked over, made eye contact with Det. Olson, and immediately changed course. The subject in yellow veered to the right where no other cars were parked and began walking along a retaining wall. The subject in yellow then entered an unlocked door (common hallway) of several closed businesses. Det. Olson continued to watch the Durango and saw the male driver exit the car and enter the hotel through the same door the subject in yellow exited. The driver was looking behind him as he walked to the hotel.
Approximately 40 seconds after the male in yellow entered the common hallway, area he exited out a different door and began walking through the parking lot. Based on his training and experience, it appeared to Det. Olson as though the two subjects were going to meet up, but that plan was aborted at the last minute after he was seen in his unmarked police car. Det. Olson made contact with the subject in yellow, who was now in the northeast parking lot of the Country Inn and Suites. He exited his unmarked police car in a dressed down uniform and identified himself as Det.
Olson with the Woodbury Police Department. He explained the reason for contact (the apparent aborted meeting with the occupant of the Durango and entering the closed business) to which the subject stated, "I do not know anyone over there." The subject was identified as BRANDON JAMES ANDERSON ([DOB redacted]). Anderson advised he was visiting his sister at the hotel, and he was not from the area. Anderson advised that he thought the closed business was "another apartment building" as he was "walking around bored." Det.
