On January 26, 2026 at approximately 1200 pm, Minneapolis Police were notified that a suspect in an aggravated robbery case involving a gun, KEVIN TERELL CAPLES, [DOB REDACTED] was identified moving near 42nd Avenue N. And Freemont Avenue N. In Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Police arrived in the area, confirmed the individual in the vehicle was Defendant and coordinated a plan to take him into custody. Defendant had parked at a business at [ADDRESS REDACTED]. N. Police entered the parking lot and positioned their squad to prevent Defendant from fleeing.
They then activated emergency lights and issued loud verbal commands. They identified themselves as police officers and informed Defendant he was under arrest. In response, Defendant immediately started his vehicle and attempted to flee by backing into the parked squad car, positioned behind him. Police drew their weapons and continued issuing commands, moving closer to Defendant to prevent danger and injury to officers or civilians. Defendant continued ignoring commands and being uncooperative. He also refused to show his hands, and officers were concerned he was reaching for a firearm.
An officer secured Defendant’s wrists to prevent him from accessing a weapon. A brief struggle ensued, Defendant’s door was unlocked and multiple officers had to work to forcibly remove Defendant from the vehicle as he continued to refuse cooperation. As Defendant was removed from the vehicle, a silver handgun fell from his waistband onto the ground. The firearm was immediately secured, and Defendant was placed into handcuffs and under arrest. Defendant does not have a permit to carry a firearm.
