On January 3, 2026, in the early morning hours, officers from the Fond du Lac Tribal Police Department and the Carlton County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting an overdose at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in the Sawyer area, within Carlton County. When officers arrived they made contact with an adult female S. W. Who was frantic and observed a non-responsive 55-year-old male L. E. B. Laying on the floor of a bedroom in the residence. Lifesaving measures were attempted by responders but L. E. B. Was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene.
Toxicology analysis to determine cause of death are in progress. In the bedroom, officers observed a piece of tinfoil with suspected drug residue on a nightstand which field tested positive for the presence of Fentanyl. While officers were on scene, they observed a phone screen briefly activate with a Facebook notification from a Miranda Ojibway. While on scene officers spoke with S. W. Who told officers that she and L. E. B. Had purchased cocaine from Miranda that day and each ingested cocaine by doing a line.
Miranda was ultimately identified as Miranda Ojibway [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. Law enforcement investigators began follow-up investigation. S. W. And L. E. B.'s cell phones were collected and data extractions were performed as well as a follow-up interview of S. W. During the interview S. W. Stated she was in contact with Defendant over Facebook Messenger and that Defendant agreed to sell her cocaine for $40. Defendant lives across the street from S. W. Defendant and S. W. Met in the road.
S. W. Provided Defendant with money and Defendant provided her with a tinfoil package. S. W. And L. E. B then each ingested some of the controlled substance. S. W. Stated she knew right away that it was not cocaine based on the effect she felt after ingestion. Officers performed an extraction of the recovered cell phones and were able to locate a Facebook Messenger chat consistent with S. W.’s statement. Officers sought and executed a search warrant at [ADDRESS REDACTED], where Defendant was identified as staying as well as for Defendant’s person.
Officers executed the search warrant on January 5, 2026. Defendant was located at the residence and was searched. During the search of her person officers located three ziploc baggies with white powder residue, one of which field tested positive for the presence of Fentanyl. Officers also located some pills and a rolled-up dollar bill officers suspect was used as drug paraphernalia. In a living room area where Defendant is believed to have slept, officers located a magnet box and ziploc baggie with white powder residue as well as a digital scale with powder residue.
In the dining room area officers observed a lock box containing a large amount of currency. Officers also located two pills stamped with a M-30 marking which is a marking identified with Oxycodone pills but which are often counterfeit pills containing Fentanyl. Officers spoke with another resident who told officers that Defendant had been home on Friday. Officers observed a porch which led to a garage area. Officers received consent to search the garage area from the resident. In the garage area, officers located a pink Victoria’s Secret bag in a garbage can.
