On March 24, 2026, officers were sent to [ADDRESS REDACTED], Roseville, Ramsey County on a trespasser. Officers spoke to the homeowner, RR, who said there had been a fire at the house and his wife and he were not currently staying there. RR said workers at the home had reported his stepson, WILLIAM JAMES ALVAREZ [DOB REDACTED], was there on March 23, 2026. Alvarez returned that day and was in a shed. RR wanted Alvarez removed from the property, and he said Alvarez likely had warrants for his arrest.
Officers confirmed Alvarez had a probation violation for his arrest on a burglary in the third degree in Chisago County District Court file 13-CR-24-307. Officers found the shed in the backyard with its door shut. Officers opened the door and saw Alvarez sitting on a chair in the shed. Alvarez concealed his left hand beneath his right arm. When asked to show his hand, Alvarez produced a meth pipe and a lighter. Officers saw a backpack next to Alvarez within arm’s reach. Officers had Alvarez step out of the shed.
Alvarez claimed his mother gave him permission to be there. Alvarez said he planned on going to treatment that day to get help with his methamphetamine addiction. When asked about the backpack Alvarez said it belonged to his brother. Officers spoke to Alvarez’ mother who said Alvarez was not allowed on the property, and she also wanted him removed. Workers told police Alvarez had a backpack when he entered the shed. Alvarez continued to deny the backpack belonged to him, and he told police if was fine for them to go through it.
Officers collected the backpack and saw a bag of suspected methamphetamine in an open pocket. Officers found a loaded Smith and Wesson.357 revolver inside the backpack. Officers found a wallet in the backpack that contained Alvarez’s driver’s license and other items in his name. Alvarez declined a custodial statement. The contents of the bag recovered from the backpack tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine and weighed 10.9 grams without packaging. Alvarez has a prior felony drug conviction and a prior felony threats to injure conviction out of Wisconsin.
