On October 24, 2025, at approximately 1:24 A.M., while in the City of Duluth, County of St. Louis, State of Minnesota, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper was dispatched to a vehicle rollover on southbound I-35 near the Central Avenue exit ramp. The trooper arrived shortly after, and observed a dark SUV on its roof, blocking the right lane. There was a Duluth Police officer talking to a witness of the crash. Nearby, the trooper observed a man leaning against the jersey barrier. The DPD officer informed the trooper that man was the driver of the rolled vehicle.
The vehicle had a Minnesota License Plate: [PLATE REDACTED], which came back to a black 2010 Subaru Forester. The trooper approached the vehicle and identified the male driver by his Minnesota driver's license as Cassidy John Olson [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "Defendant." When the trooper asked Defendant what happened, Defendant reported that he was driving too fast at approximately 80-mph in a 55-mph zone and lost control of his vehicle causing the vehicle to rollover. While speaking with Defendant, the trooper observed Defendant's eyes were bloodshot and watery, and the trooper also observed a faint odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage.
Defendant admitted to consuming alcohol and indicated that his last beer was a while ago. Defendant consented to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests where he showed indicators of impairment. Defendant agreed to submit to a preliminary breath test, which yielded a result of.17 BrAC. At approximately 01:41 A.M., Defendant was placed under arrest for suspected driving while impaired. Upon being read the Minnesota Breath Test Advisory, and after being advised of the right to speak to an attorney, Defendant consented to take the offered breath test.
Defendant's alcohol concentration was 0.14 g/210L at 2:25 A.M. Defendant has one qualified driving related offense that makes this incident enhanceable: 69DU-CR-17-2517 - Traffic - DWI - Third-Degree Driving While Impaired - Alcohol Concentration 0.08 or More Within 2 Hours, 169A.20.1(5), a Gross Misdemeanor - Convicted on 08/28/2017.
