On March 31, 2026, law enforcement responded to the Walgreens located in Woodbury, Washington County, Minnesota, after receiving a trespass and shoplifting complaint. Upon arrival, law enforcement observed a male leave the store and get into the backseat of a vehicle. Law enforcement immediately recognized the male from previous contacts as KUONG PONG YEK, [DOB REDACTED], "the defendant" herein. The defendant had active warrant for his arrest. Law enforcement conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the defendant.
He was advised that he was under arrest. The defendant tensed up and attempted to pull away from law enforcement. As he exited the vehicle, he put his right hand down the waistband of his pants. Officers were eventually able to get control of the defendant and placed him in custody. The defendant was transported to the Washington County Jail. While waiting in the intake area, law enforcement observed the defendant attempt to throw something in a trash can. Officers recovered the item and found it to be a baggie containing a white, powdery substance.
The substance later field-tested positive for cocaine and weighed 3.10 grams. The defendant was searched in custody. Officers located an additional baggie containing a white, powdery substances in his buttocks. The substance field-tested positive for cocaine and weighed 2.93 grams. Officers also located $1,649.00 in cash on his person. The defendant has two other pending felony-level Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree cases in Washington County District Court.
