On November 27, 2025, St. Francis Police were dispatched to an open 911 line coming back to a residence on Riverbank Lane NW in St. Francis, Anoka County. The caller was able to answer yes or no questions only, and there were prior domestic assaults at this residence by Defendant Jonathan Todd Engen [DOB REDACTED] against his wife, W. E. This included prior convictions for domestic assault against Defendant in 2016, 2019, and 2024. At the scene, police found Defendant and W. E. In different areas of the house, and W. E. Had blood coming from an open laceration on her scalp.
Defendant and W. E. Both gave statements to police that were largely consistent, and reported that Defendant and W. E. Had gotten into an argument about Defendant’s drinking. The argument turned physical, and W. E. Grabbed Defendant’s leg to trip him when he had charged at her. Defendant then shoved W. E. With significant force. Defendant stated that W. E. Must have struck a piece of furniture from the shove, but W. E. Stated that Defendant intentionally grabbed her hair and then slammed her head into a dresser, causing the laceration.
It should be noted that Defendant had consumed several drinks that evening, and the bedroom where he was arrested contained a large number of empty beer cans. The argument in this matter was over Defendant’s habitual drinking, and according to W. E., Defendant had initially gotten upset because he thought W. E. Had stolen some of his liquor, when in fact he had already consumed it. Prior calls to the residence for domestic assault have also stemmed from Defendant’s severe alcohol use.
