On February 9, 2026, Faribault Detective Shuda received information about a possible sexual assault which occurred in Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota on or about January 27, 2026. Det. Shunda met with Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED] at Female Adult Victim’s residence. Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED], and an interpreter was used during the interview. After the initial interview, Det. Shuda arranged for Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED] at the hospital, reviewed recordings provided by Female Adult Victim, reviewed a MAARC report and completed investigation regarding the suspect and his location.
Det. Shuda then met with Female Adult Victim a second time and again used an interpreter for that interview. Based on Det. Shuda’s investigation, he learned the following. Female Adult Victim said a male she knows as “Abdi" sexually assaulted her while she was inside her residence. Female Adult Victim said "Abdi's" telephone number ends in 0117. “Abdi” was later identified as TAYIB AMAN DUFO, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein. Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED] was previously in a relationship with the defendant approximately two years prior.
Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED] told the defendant she does not want contact with him, however on or about January 27, 2026, the defendant was outside her residence. Female Adult Victim reported the defendant drives a white car. On that day, the defendant called Female Adult Victim multiple times which she characterized as harassing. The phone calls made her fear for her safety and the safety of her children. Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED] was calling her, she was talking to her husband, ST, who resides in Ethiopia.
ST and Female Adult Victim were using the video/face time function on their phones. Female Adult Victim said in the past when the defendant has texted her, she calls ST who will interpret the text message because Female Adult Victim does not read or speak English. Since the defendant was not leaving the area, ST told Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED] in a location in the house so that her phone would capture and record the defendant. In essence Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED] interaction with the defendant to ST, who was using his phone to record the screen.
Female Adult Victim said the defendant entered her residence and started to strike her. Female Adult Victim [NAME REDACTED]. The defendant then grabbed Female Adult Victim and started to kiss her. Female Adult Victim tried to stop the defendant, but he did not stop. The defendant pushed Female Adult Victim’s garment above her waist. The defendant penetrated Female Adult Victim’s vagina with his penis. The defendant did not utilize a condom. The defendant ejaculated twice. Female Adult Victim explained that ST captured the sexual assault on his phone.
