On or about May 5, 2026, at approximately 9:10 A.M., Coleraine Police Chief Beach conducted a traffic stop on County Road 440 in Bovey, Itasca County, Minnesota, on a Pontiac Grand Am for failing to use its turn signal 100 feet prior to changing lanes/or turning. The driver of the Pontiac Grand Am was identified as JONATHON EDWARD TREECE, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. Defendant pulled into the driveway on County Road 440. As Chief Beach approached the vehicle, Defendant got out of the car.
AIM VCET Agent Holum arrived on scene and advised Defendant to get back in the car. Defendant did so. Agent Holum approached the driver’s door with Chief Beach. Agent Holum observed Defendant and a passenger in the car. The passenger had active warrants out of two counties. The passenger got out of the vehicle and was arrested. The passenger initially stated nothing illegal would be found in the car but then admitted there would be a small amount of methamphetamine in the vehicle. The passenger stated they had just picked up some methamphetamine in Grand Rapids.
Agent Holum briefly spoke with Defendant, who stated that there was nothing illegal in the car. Agent Holum then conducted an exterior vehicle sniff with the use of his K9 partner, Tikka. K9 Tikka is a certified narcotics detection K9 through the National Police K9 association for cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin. K9 Tikka is also reliable and consistent with indicating to the odor of fentanyl. K9 Tikka showed a distinct change of behavior at the front passenger door, and she indicated by sitting.
Following the indication, the vehicle was searched. Located inside the vehicle were the following: A clear baggie containing 2.22 grams of suspected methamphetamine was found under the driver’s seat. Field tested positive for methamphetamine. A black and blue pouch was found in the vehicle’s trunk. The bag contained the following: A clear Ziploc style bag that contained the following: A clear baggie containing a grey-toned substance suspected to be fentanyl. The substance weighed 4.09 grams (including baggie) and field tested positive for fentanyl.
Located in two (2) one-dollar bills and a ripped piece of magazine paper, 3 grams of a white powdery substance that field tested positive for fentanyl. In one of dollar bills was 2.18 grams of fentanyl In the other one-dollar bill was the magazine paper that contained 0.82 grams of fentanyl. Two clear baggies containing suspected cocaine. The total weight including the baggies was 3.03 grams. The substance field tested positive for cocaine. A separate black pouch that contained the following: A clear plastic baggie that contained suspected methamphetamine.
The suspected methamphetamine weighed 4.28 grams and field tested positive for methamphetamine. Drug paraphernalia, including glass methamphetamine pipes, new glass pipes, burnt tin foil, and Narcan. A silver-toned Enigma digital scale and several clear plastic baggies common for packaging illegal substances. A dark, blue-toned Cricket cellular phone located on Defendant’s person; A dark, blue-toned Motorola cellular phone located in the center console of the car. 3 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 5/7/2026 The total amount of fentanyl located was about 7 grams.
