On November 9, 2025, at approximately 8:59 P.M., Officer Ramirez and Officer Abrahamson were on routine patrol traveling northbound on Central Avenue N. E., in the 7400 block, when the officers randomly queried a Kia Rio bearing MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. The owner of the vehicle, J. V. M., had a revoked driver's license. The officers followed the vehicle and were unable to visually identify the driver. The officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The physical description of the driver looked like the registered owner of the vehicle.
Defendant spoke Spanish and told officers his name was Miguel, and typed his name into his phone. The given name did not match that of the registered owner. Officers observed that the male driver, later identified as Miguel Angel Aguilar Naula, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein, had bloodshot and watery eyes. Officers smelled a strong odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle. Officers utilized a Language Line Interpreter to communicate with defendant. When asked to identify himself, defendant wrote the name, Alberto Navla, [DOB REDACTED], on a notepad.
Defendant denied consuming alcohol today. Defendant was not wearing appropriate attire to perform field sobriety tests outside of the vehicle, due to the cold weather conditions. Officers administered the horizontal gaze nystagmus test and observed a total of six clues of impairment from defendant. Officers attempted to administer the PBT test, however, defendant was not cooperative. Officers were unable to obtain a good breath sample after numerous attempts. A manual breath sample was obtained, which resulted in a reading of 0.095. Defendant was placed under arrest.
Officers were unable to locate a result under the name give by defendant, Alberto Navla, [DOB REDACTED]. Officers were able to correctly identify defendant via DVS and found that he had a revoked driving status. After being read a Minnesota Implied Consent Advisory, defendant agreed to submit to a DataMaster test. That test revealed the defendant's alcohol concentration to be 0.10 at 9:57 P.M. On 11/09/2025. On 12/20/2024, defendant was convicted of Misdemeanor 4th Degree DWI in Hennepin County Court File ••-CR-••-••••.
