On June 28, 2025, troopers with the Minneapolis State Patrol responded to a crash near 57th Avenue in Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Specifically, troopers were informed that a vehicle had driven down a grass embankment and crashed into a guard rail. While en route to the crash scene, troopers were notified that other officers had arrived and were performing CPR on the driver of the vehicle. Officers arrived at the crash scene and learned that an officer had administered Narcan to the driver of the vehicle.
The driver was transported to the North Memorial Hospital. The trooper also learned that there was a dollar bill on the driver’s side door that the contained narcotics. Troopers obtained a search warrant for a sample of the driver’s blood or urine. Troopers arrived at the North Memorial Hospital and met with the driver. The driver was then identified as Rodney Leshaun Bennett [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant”). Troopers executed the warrant and collected a sample of Defendant’s blood. The sample was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (“BCA”) for analysis.
On September 2, 2025, the BCA found that the sample contained Fentanyl, a schedule-II controlled substance. The suspected narcotics were also sent to the BCA for analysis. On October 30, 2025, the BCA found that the substance weighed 0.487-grams and contained Fentanyl.
