On December 3, 2025, officers were called to an apartment in Hopkins, Hennepin County, Minnesota, for a domestic assault. When officers arrived, they spoke with Victim who said that she and her husband Joel Medina Perez [DOB REDACTED] got into an argument and he strangled her. Officers noticed red marks on Victim's neck. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was strangling her, she could not breath and began yelling to their son for help. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was a point that she could not speak. Victim [NAME REDACTED], attempted to intervene.
Officers next spoke to Victim and Defendant's son A.M. A.M. Said he came out of the bathroom and saw Defendant choking Victim. He saw both of Defendant's hands around Victim's neck. A.M. Tried to push Defendant off Victim. A.M. Said that Defendant was choking Victim for about 30 seconds. Based on this information, officers were able to locate and arrest Defendant. After officers arrested Defendant, they read him his Miranda rights which he understood, and he agreed to talk with officers. During the conversation, Defendant told officers that he grabbed Victim [NAME REDACTED]. He said his kids saw what happened and that the altercation lasted about 30 seconds.
Defendant told officers that it is all his fault and that whatever Victim [NAME REDACTED] is probably the truth. Defendant is currently in custody.
