On or about April 24, 2026, Officers from the Fridley Police Department responded to an open line call at an apartment in the city of Fridley, Anoka County, Minnesota. Dispatch could hear a male and female yelling at each other and heard the male yelling, “get out of here, you stupid b****.” Officers arrived and made contact with Victim, an adult female fully identified in the reports, in the hallway of the apartment complex. Victim [NAME REDACTED] reported she had been kicked on the left side of her ribs around 14 times.
Officers observed redness on Victim’s ribs. Officers observed dried blood and bruising on Victim’s neck. Victim reported JERROD ROBERT JOHNSON [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant, placed both of his hands around her neck and applied pressure, impeding her ability to breathe and causing her vision to go black. Officers became aware that the Victim [NAME REDACTED] in a romantic relationship based on prior reports where Victim had referred to Defendant as her boyfriend. The parties also reside together at the apartment.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] had been drinking and became upset, looking for his vape, and came into her bedroom, grabbing her by the pants. Victim then helped Defendant search the apartment, and again Defendant picked her up and threw her over the couch onto the floor. Defendant then dragged Victim [NAME REDACTED] into the other bedroom and threw her against the closet doors. Officers observed a pile of Victim’s hair on the kitchen table that was consistent with being pulled out. Officers observed that a bedroom door was split and closet doors were bent off the track.
Once on the ground, Defendant began kicking, punching, and strangling Victim. Victim reported being struck approximately 14 times in the ribs and strangled for approximately 20 seconds. Victim also reported Defendant lifted and slammed her head into the floor. Officers observed bruising starting to form on Victim’s ribs. Victim was able to escape Defendant and fled to her bedroom and dialed 911. Defendant forced his way into her bedroom, breaking the door and handle, and taking her phone so she could not speak with dispatch.
Victim escaped, and a neighbor assisted with calling 911.
