On January 20, 2026, around 7:18 P.M., law enforcement responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED] NE, Blaine, Anoka County, on a report of a runaway juvenile from a nearby treatment center. Staff from the treatment center told law enforcement that the juvenile left in a blue Hyundai Sonata. Later that night, the staff told law enforcement that the blue Hyundai Sonata returned, and they believed the occupants were smoking marijuana in the vehicle in their parking lot. The vehicle was found by law enforcement leaving the parking lot.
Law enforcement followed the vehicle and noted that the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, shut off all its lights, and then went through a red light and got into a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Oak Park Boulevard and 125th Avenue NE, Blaine, Anoka County. The other vehicle had two occupants, a pregnant female and a male. The male had blood coming from his nostrils and the pregnant female was experiencing stomach pain and had an injury to her mouth that was bleeding. The driver of the blue Hyundai was identified as Malachi Saye-Earl Mehn [DOB REDACTED], defendant herein.
The passenger was the runaway juvenile. Law enforcement made contact with defendant, who appeared confused. In the blue vehicle, law enforcement located a handgun, a Glock, in the center console of the vehicle with an extended magazine and a bullet chambered and a shotgun in the back seat. The shotgun came back stolen out of Minneapolis, Hennepin County. A bottle of alcohol was also found behind the driver’s seat. Defendant was arrested. In a search incident to arrest, law enforcement located a plastic baggie in defendant’s jacket pocket with a white powdery substance in it that appeared to be fentanyl.
The substance field-tested positive for fentanyl in the amount of 0.23 grams. Given defendant’s driving conduct, the report of staff, the bottle of alcohol, and the collision, law enforcement got a search warrant for defendant’s blood to determine if alcohol was present in his system. The results are pending. Defendant does not have a valid permit to carry a firearm in the State of Minnesota.
