On November 25, 2025, TED MATTHEW BENNETT [DOB REDACTED] appeared in court on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Third and Fourth Degrees in Ramsey County District Court file 62-CR- 25-8430. Bennett is a high school English teacher and had an illegal sexual relationship with one of his female students, a 16-year-old (YOB: 2009). A No Contact Order was issued in that case prohibiting Bennett from having any contact with the girl. The NCO remains valid and in effect. Bennett posted bail in that case after a brief jail stay.
On January 14, 2025, the girl told her assistant principal that Bennett had called her from an unknown number the previous evening. The girl was at her home in Ramsey County when Bennett called her, and they talked for 8 hours. Bennett told the girl that he had a method and plan to commit suicide if he had to go back to jail. Bennett said that his life was over if additional information came out. Bennett told the girl he had written several goodbye letters to family and friend. Bennett’s letter to the girl was purportedly 12- pages long.
Bennett said he had been working with another teacher at the school to help him cope. The teacher helping Bennett is one of the girl’s current teachers. Bennett confessed how much he still cares for the girl in the phone call. Bennett said his lawyer is trying to convince Bennett that the girl is mentally ill, and Bennett needs to let her go. The lawyer told Bennett that the girl is ruining Bennett’s life. The vice-principal told investigators that the student was in crisis mode fearing that Bennett would kill himself since she reported their conversation.
A quick analysis of the girl’s phone showed she had text communications on January 13, 2026 with a phone number that came back to Bennett’s wife’s phone. Bennett wrote the girl, “I can’t write what I want to. I hope I can someday soon. I’m glad to hear from you.” In the early morning hours of January 14, 2026, the girl texted a friend that she was currently involved in an hours-long conversation with Bennett. The Ramsey County Sheriff Office opened a tip-line for people to provide additional information about Bennett’s behavior.
To date, 17 additional former students have come forward with information about Bennett behaving creepily towards them. One girl reported a friend had a sexual relationship with Bennett but that victim wanted to put it behind her.
