On November 17, 2025, Anoka County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a forensic interview on 12-year-old Child A, who had disclosed prior instances of sexual abuse to her mother. From the forensic interview and follow-up investigation, law enforcement learned the following: From September 2020 until February 2022, Child A resided with her mother and with Defendant Nathan Alan Tibbetts ([DOB REDACTED]), who was her mother's boyfriend. The family initially lived in a condo in Coon Rapids, Anoka County, Minnesota and moved to another residence in Coon Rapids in August 2021. Accordingly, Child A was between the ages of 7 and 9 when she resided with Defendant.
During this time, Child A experienced multiple forms of sexual abuse, of varying levels of severity. These acts ranged from Defendant allegedly masturbating in front of Child A, to pressing his erect penis against her back, to touching her chest and genitals over the clothes. This eventually escalated to include Defendant placing Child A's hand on his penis, and later engaging in oral sex. Child A reported that Defendant told her to suck his penis on at least three occasions, and that she did so, and at least once, Defendant licked her bare vaginal area.
Child A was distraught and crying throughout the interview, and stated that she did not disclose this earlier because she believed it was her fault. She denied that Defendant ever vaginally penetrated her nor that he ever took photos of her. Child A also provided a second forensic interview where she gave more details about witnessing Defendant's masturbation, including viewing pornography on Defendant's computer and that Defendant frequently used sex toys. She used age-appropriate language and described three toys in detail.
She reported that on one occasion, she accidentally interrupted Defendant while he was masturbating, and that he continued while staring at her face and chest. Law enforcement also spoke to Defendant's most recent partner, who reported a similar concern that Defendant had potentially peeped on her 12-year-old daughter while she was in the shower, and also that he had recorded some of their sexual activity without her consent. This partner also corroborated Child A's descriptions of the sexual toys Defendant would use while masturbating.
Law enforcement took a statement from Defendant, who denied that Child A had ever seen him masturbate and stated that the incidents either did not occur, or he could not recall them. He stated that he believed Child A had been coached and that Child A's mother and Defendant's former partner had conspired in order to keep him from obtaining custody of his children with each of them. When law enforcement attempted to take a second statement with the aid of a polygraph, Defendant never responded.
