On November 7, 2025, multiple Coon Rapids Officers were monitoring radio traffic regarding a developing incident in Columbia Heights. Officer Tombers and Nochez both learned from CAD notes and radio traffic that a male, later fully identified as Nicholas James Sirmans [DOB REDACTED] hereinafter the Defendant was sought in relation to a Burglary in the 1st degree involving an assault. Police dispatch indicated that one of the 911 callers reported that the Defendant was planning on killing his mom and it sounded like he was assaulting her.
Additional CAD notes indicated that police dispatch noted there was an extreme escalation, and that the Defendant was on an open line and mentally unstable. Dispatch noted that a female was crying and screaming, and the Defendant was telling her to shut up. Dispatch could hear the female gasping for air. As Columbia Heights Officer arrived on scene the Defendant left in his vehicle which was described as a 2010 black Honda Civic. Police dispatch noted that the Defendant on an open call with dispatch monitoring commented that “it was a high stakes game and that he was ready to play.” He was also overheard discussing killing officers who stopped him.
He Defendant male said he was “ready to snap and this was the icing on the cake, [and] once law enforcement finds him, he’s dead.” Coon Rapids Officer Tombers observed the Defendant driving his 2010 Honda Civic bearing Minnesota license TAA667, as he was traveling south on East River Rd NW, just north of 85th Ave NW. The vehicle was driving northbound through 85th Ave NW. Officer Tombers made the U-Turn and began to catch up to the vehicle, as the vehicle approached 86th Ave NW, it took a right turn to go eastbound without using the turn lane.
It appeared that the vehicle was trying to use this maneuver to evade me. The vehicle turned northbound on Norway St NW and began accelerating at a high rate of speed. As the Officer followed, he observed the vehicle was driving well over the speed limit. Even though they were traveling on a small residential road, the vehicle was traveling well over 50 mph. Officer Tombers activated his emergency lights and siren and the vehicle continued to accelerate away from Officer Tombers, who estimated speeds over 70 mph because he was traveling 62 mph and it appeared the vehicle was still pulling away.
The vehicle was driving so fast that it appeared that it drifted as it slammed on the brakes as the road ended in a dead end. Officer Tombers blocked the vehicle from escaping and the Defendant exited his vehicle holding a large metal pipe, in the city of Coon Rapids, Anoka County, Minnesota. The Officer exited and drew his firearm and instructed the Defendant to drop the pole, but he refused. The Defendant began swinging the metal pipe and approaching the Officer Aggressively. As Officer Nochez arrived in the area, he observed the Defendant swinging the metal pipe while Officer Tombers was telling the Defendant to drop his weapon.
