On May 3, 2024, at approximately 10:40 A.M., Minnesota State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash that occurred on Westbound Interstate 394 at Xenia Avenue in the city of Golden Valley, Hennepin County. Upon arrival at the scene, Troopers observed one vehicle rolled over on its side, and the other vehicle stopped in the left lane. The rolled-over vehicle was a grey Chrysler minivan bearing Wisconsin plate [APT REDACTED] and was occupied by a single female driver, later identified by her Minnesota Driver’s License as ARIELLE RENE FREDERICK. The second involved vehicle that was in the left lane was a grey Chevrolet Tahoe bearing Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED] and it was occupied by a single male driver.
Emergency personnel were on scene trying to get the Defendant out of the rolled vehicle. EMS was able to get the Defendant out of the vehicle and started providing medical care to her. She was alert and responsive. Troopers asked the Defendant for identification, but she was unable to retrieve it herself due to EMS providing her medical care. The Defendant consented to Troopers opening her purse to retrieve her identification. Troopers located her Minnesota Driver’s License in a small pink purse where they immediately observed several blue pills in a baggie consistent with fentanyl pills.
The Defendant stated that she “found 54them at a gas station, and she was going to throw them away later.” Troopers asked when the last time she consumed drugs was, to which the Defendant stated she took “some of the blue pills last night,” then stated she took “one of the blue pills last night.” Due to finding the pills, the Defendant recently consuming them, and the nature of the crash, Troopers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. The Defendant showed several signs of impairment. The Defendant was placed under arrest.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash stated that he was in the left lane when the Defendant side swiped his vehicle. His vehicle sustained right-front damage, and he sustained a neck injury. Freeway cameras showed the Defendant was in the right lane, then made a sudden lane change into the lefthand lane and collided with the other vehicle. A fluid sample from the Defendant was collected pursuant to warrant which showed the presence of both Fentanyl and Norfentanyl in her blood. The Defendant has two prior implied consent license revocations and the associated criminal matters resulted in convictions for driving while under the influence: July 15, 2017, in Nicollet County - resulting from testing that revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.19. January 2, 2016, in Hennepin County - resulting from testing that revealed a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.14. On March 18, 2025, the BCA reported that the pills located in the Defendant's purse counted 20 tablets. 3 27-CR-25-32127 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 12/22/2025 One of them was tested and contained fentanyl.
