On the afternoon of October 08, 2025, EAC reported to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office that she ordered custom doors for installation from CB Homes and Remodeling LLC, which is owned by Brian John Kalenberg [DOB REDACTED] (hereinafter “the defendant”). She reported that she and her husband, RLC, paid the defendant $8,300 for the job about four months ago but no work has been done. When EAC last spoke with the defendant on September 21st or 22nd, he claimed there was an issue involving the lumber yard that the doors were ordered from.
Since September 21st or 22nd, the defendant has stopped answering EAC/RLC’s phone calls and has stopped replying to them. They sent a letter to the defendant 10 days ago, in which they set a 10-day deadline for the doors to be installed. However, the doors have still not been installed. On October 9th, Deputy Mosiman spoke with the defendant. The defendant said there was still an issue with the lumber yard. The defendant said he had some medical complications. The matter was assigned to Wright County Sheriff’s Detective Bautch on November 3rd.
He learned that EAC and RLC paid the defendant $8,300 as a down payment for new custom doors for their home. The defendant was going to install the doors. However, the job has not been completed and the defendant has stopped answering/replying to their phone calls. EAC said the defendant allegedly ordered the doors from Simonson Lumber, but Simonson Lumber told her that the defendant never placed the order. EAC and RLC’s home is located in Wright County, Minnesota. Detective Bautch spoke with a Simonson Lumber employee on November 5th, who confirmed that the defendant had not placed any orders for new doors with their lumber yard.
Detective Bautch spoke with the defendant by phone on November 5th. The defendant admitted he had not spoken with EAC since September. The defendant told Detective Bautch that he had health issues for most of October. The defendant said he explained to EAC and RLC that the lumber yard has the doors, and the defendant is fighting to obtain the doors and is working with attorneys to get the issue resolved. The defendant said he told them that when he gets access to the doors, he will get them delivered.
The defendant clarified that the lumber yard he was talking about is 201 Building Supply in Grove City. Detective Bautch spoke with SR, a secretary at 201 Building Supply. SR confirmed that the defendant ordered doors, and that the doors were received on September 1st. SR indicated the total value of the doors was $7,663.24. SR explained that the defendant did not pay his monthly bill that would have covered the cost of the doors, and that the defendant owes 201 Building Supply an additional $20,000 for other unrelated purchases.
SR stated 201 Building Supply will not release the doors to the defendant until his bill is paid. Detective Bautch spoke with EAC again. EAC indicated their first phone conversation with the defendant was on April 19th, and the defendant came to their home for the first time on April 22nd. EAC’s understanding was that the total cost for the doors and installation would be $11,514.62. EAC said the 2 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 1/9/2026 defendant gave them a quote from Simonson Lumber for just the doors, which would cost $8,239.62. On May 19th, the defendant emailed a quote to EAC, and EAC and her husband accepted the quote.
