On May 25, 2026, at approximately 5:56 A.M., officers of the Austin Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the City of Austin, County of Mower. The reporting party advised that TYLER DAVID PETERSON, DOB/052497, the defendant herein, was doing something to their daughter (Victim A, an adult female). The defendant and Victim A live together at the residence and have children together. Officers arrived at the residence and were informed by dispatch that the defendant was on the phone and advised that he was going to exit the house.
The defendant then exited the house and spoke with Officer Heeren. The defendant advised that he called law enforcement because he did not know who his girlfriend (Victim A) was on the phone with. The defendant repeatedly stated that he “was ready to go.” Heeren asked the defendant what he meant and he stated he was ready to go to jail. The defendant said that he wanted to go in handcuffs. The defendant was handcuffed and placed in the squad car. Officer Heeren read the defendant the Miranda warning and the defendant agreed to speak with the officer.
The defendant stated that he was trying to go to bed at approximately 4:00 A.M. And that when he went to bed, he and Victim A got into an argument about the defendant accusing Victim A of cheating on him. The defendant denied any physical altercation. The defendant claimed that he attempted to give his girlfriend a hug to calm her down and that she was not accepting that hug. The defendant stated that after he tried to hug Victim A she started “freaking out.” The defendant said he then left her alone.
The defendant said he went to sweep up a lightbulb that he broke. The defendant claimed it shattered when he was screwing it in and squeezed too hard. The defendant said he then called law enforcement. Officer Tamke arrived at the residence and spoke with Victim A. Victim A stated that she had gone to bed and woke up this morning with the defendant upset with her and talking about how she is cheating on him. Victim A said the defendant then got upset with the lighting in the house and broke one of the lamps which caused the defendant to have a cut on his finger.
Victim A said the defendant got agitated with her, so she stuck her arm out to keep distance from him. Victim A stated that the defendant then “bearhugged” her with his arms around her chest and threw her down onto the bed. She said her arms were pressed against her chest and the defendant wrapped his legs around her left leg so she could not move. Victim A said the defendant was yelling at her throughout the five (5) minutes he lay on top of her. She said the defendant would get up and as soon as she tried to get up, he would push her back down on the bed.
Victim A stated this went on for two to three minutes. Victim A said the defendant was yelling and looked angry with a furrowed brow while he was on top of her. Victim A said that when the defendant left to go pick up the glass lamp he broke, she went into the bathroom and locked the door. Victim A said that the defendant then attempted to get into the locked door with knives and screwdrivers. Victim A said she called her mother because it made her feel safer. Victim A said that when the cops arrived, the defendant left the bathroom door.
