That on or about August 1, 2025, at approximately 20:20 hours Hennepin County Sheriff’s Deputies A.M. And S. J. Observed a black Maserati Levante (MN #LLL198) traveling on 26th Avenue North, in the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, with expired motor vehicle registration (April 2025) and a broken side mirror. The deputies turned around to get behind the vehicle, and eventually located the vehicle parking on 24th Avenue N. The deputies observed that the vehicle also did not have a front license plate.
Deputy S. J. Turned around and got behind the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle near 24th Avenue N. And Morgan Avenue. The deputies observed the passengers try to get out of the vehicle and walk away, at which point they were told that this was a traffic stop and instructed them to get back into the vehicle. Deputy S. J. Approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and Deputy A.M. The passenger side. Once the occupants were inside the vehicle, Deputy S. J. Asked the driver and the rear passenger for identification.
The driver verbally identified himself as A. E. L. And the rear passenger as D. R. C. The deputy also observed two small children in the rear back seat, whose parents were later identified D. R. C. And SELENA MARIE WILLIAMS, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, and the front passenger. Deputy S. J. Observed that D. R. C.’s body language turned from relaxed to nervous and he began looking around and down at his feet nervously. In the meantime, Deputy A.M. Was interacting with the right-side rear passenger, L. S. W. And Defendant, both who tried to exit the vehicle.
Deputy A.M. Was trying to communicate with L. S. W. To identify him, but the windows were rolled up and he was informed that the window would not roll down because the car was turned off; the deputy opened the back right seat passenger door to better communicate with L. S. W. Both right-side passengers provided the deputy with their identification cards, and checks revealed that L. S. W. Had an active warrant. Deputy A.M. Informed L. S. W. That he had a warrant, asked him to exit the vehicle and search incident to L. S. W.’s arrest, the deputy looked around the immediate area where L. S. W. Was sitting and observed, in plain view, an open bottle of liquor near the right back seat floor.
Based on the observation of the open container of alcohol in the vehicle, all the other occupants were removed, one at a time, and the vehicle searched. D. R. C. Was removed from the vehicle prior to its search and detained. D. R. C. Had a black bag across on his chest and as Deputy A.M. Felt around the body bag, he felt an imprint of what believed to be a firearm, based on his training and experience, and without being prompted, D. R. C. Stated “it’s in my name.” Due to deputy safety concerns, the Deputy A.M. Removed the black bag from D. R. C.’s person; deputies located a Ruger 9mm Serial #45712601, with a loaded magazine inserted and a round in the chamber, inside the bag D. R. C. Was carrying on his chest.
