On March 15, 2026, law enforcement officers from Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 31972 115th Avenue, Onamia, Mille Lacs County on a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, Sgt. R. Sullivan knocked at the door. He got no answer but heard a struggle right at the door, so he opened the door and observed three females struggling. He took control of the most aggressive female, later identified as Defendant SHANIA BERNICE CHURCHILL [DOB REDACTED]. He detained Defendant and secured her in his patrol vehicle, noticing that she smelled strongly of alcoholic beverage and was slurring her speech.
Sgt. Sullivan returned inside and spoke with the two other females, R. L. H. (Defendant’s mother) and D. M. K. (Defendant’s sister), both adults fully identified in police reports. They advised that Defendant had arrived home intoxicated and had been yelling and swearing at R. L. H. About getting her driver’s license back. They reported that Defendant grabbed her right shoulder, at which point D. M. K. Attempted to separate them and Defendant then started kicking and swinging at her. Defendant then went downstairs and smashed the toilet, flooding the basement area.
They reported that she returned upstairs and continued screaming, pushing R. L. H. And attempting to hit her, but no punches landed. D. M. K. Was again attempting to separate them when law enforcement arrived. Sgt. Sullivan observed a trash can tipped over and garbage spilled throughout the room, but no visible signs of injury on either R. L. H. Or D. M. K. A recorded statement was taken from Defendant, but she was difficult to follow due to her level of intoxication. She stated she had been drinking at home, and that her mother came into her room and assaulted her.
She stated her mother and sister both punched her in the face, and that her mom punched her in the nose with a closed fist. She stated she lost count of how many times they hit her. She stated she is now 18 and doesn’t want to live there anymore. A photograph was taken of Defendant’s face, which showed no signs of injury. Defendant provided a PBT of.291. She was taken to the hospital in Onamia and cleared by medical staff, and was then transported to the Mille Lacs County Jail. Defendant has four prior adjudications of delinquency since 2022.
