He stated that he had a cart full of stuff, but most of it was 2 31-CR-26-188 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 1/22/2026 dog food bags that were huge. He stated that his finacee did not know anything about what was going on with the thefts until he got back out to the car. Baker acknowledged that he and Mike had talked about committing the thefts in which both knew what was going on. He acknowledged driving the van to Walmart to commit the thefts. He stated that the van belonged to him, though he did not have a valid license.
Investigator Mattson advised both Massi and Baker that they would not be arrested and that charges would be "long-formed". Baker was advised that the van would be towed from the scene pending application for a search warrant. All three (3) occupants of the van were allowed to gather some personal items from the vehicle. They then left on foot. On 09-26-2025, Investigator Mattson applied for a search warrant for the van. The search warrant was signed by the Honorable Jon Maturi. The search warrant was executed later on September 26, 2025. The items recovered from the van consisted of namely food and drink items, as well as various pet foods.
An itemized list of the items recovered from the van was provided to Walmart security who calculated the total value of the products at $1,354.14. A record check revealed that Massi has the following criminal convictions: 05-06-2024: DWI, misdemeanor, St. Louis County 08-21-2023: Fifth Degree Controlled Substance Possession, felony, St. Louis County A record check revealed that Baker has no criminal convictions, but has a pending charge for misdemeanor theft in Itasca County court file 31-CR-26-75.
