Your Complainant is an Officer with the Owatonna Police Department. Investigation has revealed that on April 1st, 2026, at approximately 7:30PM, Officer's responded to a domestic disturbance call on the 370 block of Berry Drive Northeast, Owatonna, MN, County of Steele. Prior to arrival dispatch stated the following: lots of yelling and screaming, male yelling "let's fight," and female crying. Officer Steinberg arrived on scene and made contact at the front door. Brandon Dean Berg (DOB: 03-07- 1990) came to the door yelling at Officer Steinberg.
Berg was visibly agitated and refused to allow Officer Steinberg entry into the residence. Berg stated he and D. S. Have been together for fifteen years and shared two children together. Officer Steinberg made contact with D. S. As she was coming out of the residence. D. S. Stated Berg had been drinking and the day had been bad. D. S. Said Berg told her he was going to punch her in the face and bust out her other eye. D. S. Stated Berg said he was going to kill C. G., which is D. S.' current boyfriend.
D. S. Expressed fear and she wanted to remove her two red vehicle's from the property before Berg damaged them, as he had threatened to bust out all the windows if she left a car there. D. S. Confirmed Berg did not physically strike her during this incident but stated his behavior was escalating and she was scared. The two children present were identified as Berg and D. S.'s shared children. Upon arrival at the scene, Officer Michael observed D. S. Outside the residence speaking with Officer Steinberg.
D. S. Appeared distraught. D. S. Was attempting to load belongings into a vehicle. Berg was present at the scene and became belligerent, yelling, and swearing at D. S. In front of the two children. Both children began to cry. Officer Michael spoke with D. S. To obtain her account of the incident. D. S. Provided the following information: Berg had been angry because she was still involved C. G. Berg threw items against the wall in his room, and was punching doors. D. S. Stated Berg threw items toward her direction.
D. S. Reported Berg threatened to punch her in the face and stated he was going to bust out her other eye. D. S. Stated she was scared of Berg and feared what he might do. D. S. Also reported Berg stated he was going to come kill C. G. Officer Michael asked D. S. A series of domestic lethality questions. D. S. Confirmed Berg has previously used or threatened to use a weapon against her. D. S. Stated Berg had threatened or tried to kill her before during their fifteen-year relationship. When Officer Martin arrived at the scene he observed Berg in the front yard.
Berg appeared inconsolable, saying he wanted to just go to jail. Berg was visibly intoxicated. Berg was volatile, screaming, and swearing while in the front yard. Due to Berg's ongoing escalating conduct, screaming at Officers in close proximity, failure to listen to Officers by walking away, and various pre-fight indicators, Officers handcuffed Berg. Berg further escalated, yelling threatening and profane comments. During contact, Berg stated D. S. Had left him and returned on March 21st, 2026. Berg said D. S. Was showing more respect to another individual than to 2 74-CR-26-609 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 4/2/2026 him.
