On April 13, 2026, at approximately 6:04 P.M., Officers responded to a 911 call for service at [ADDRESS REDACTED], in the city of Lino Lakes, Anoka County, Minnesota regarding a domestic altercation. The 911 caller, a neighbor, reported that a woman, later identified as R. M. C. [DOB REDACTED] fled the residence and was hysterically crying and told the 911 caller that a male later identified as Michael Lee Wangert, [DOB REDACTED] hereinafter the Defendant, had threated to kill her. The 911 caller told police that it appeared that R. M. C.’s hand was broken.
When police arrived, R. M. C. Was hysterical, screaming and crying. She had red marks on her arms, and her right hand was red and very swollen. She told police that she arrived at the above listed residence at approximately 9:00 A.M. Because the Defendant has a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO) prohibiting him from having contact with her, he told her to park in the garage so that no one would see her car. R. W. C. Said that the Defendant had a part to fix her vehicle. Initially their encounter was cordial and friendly, but approximately 20 minutes after she arrived his personality changed.
He accused her of cheating on him and began yelling and screaming at her. She said that she worries he has multiple personalities because his demeanor changes and he starts using different voices. He then began physically assaulting her in the bedroom. He bit her, scratched her, hit her and headbutted her. R. M. C. Fled to the bathroom where she curled into a ball between the toilet and the bathtub to protect herself. The Defendant continued to berate her screaming at her and yelling threats including: “Now you have to stay.
I am not letting you go. You are going to die today.” He repeated the threat that he would kill her that day numerous times throughout the day. At one point he returned with a kitchen knife and placed it on top of the toilet. He told her it was for her protection and that the Defendant told her to use the knife to stab him if he attacked her because he would not stop once he started. But shortly thereafter he returned and demanded she give him the knife. She was worried he was going to use it so she held onto it.
The Defendant then used the base of his hands to beat the knife out of her hand and head butted her which made her let go of the knife. Throughout the day the Defendant kicked her, hit her, and threatened her. Sometime that afternoon, she received a call from her son. The Defendant had previously taken her cell phone. He answered the call and told her to lie to her son. She said that he told her that if the police get called he would slit her throat while holding the knife and pointing it at her.
After the call he smashed her phone. Just before the 911 call the Defendant told R. M. C that he was going to take her for a long drive. He said she was going to watch him, “F*** some b******,” and that he would tape her eyes open to make sure she watched so she would know how he feels. He told her, “You’re not going to survive this, [R. W. C.]” and stated they were going on the run. When they walked to the car parked in the driveway, R. W. C. Fled to the neighbor’s residence. The full extent of the injury to R. M. C’s hand is unknown.
