On February 21, 2025, Detective Barrett with the Anoka Hennepin Drug Task Force (AHDTF), received information from a detective with the Boulder County Drug Task Force located in Boulder Colorado. Detective Barrett learned that a target Boulder County was investigating was shipping large quantities of marijuana and cocaine throughout the country. Through their investigation they placed a GPS tracking device on the target vehicle and learned that it stopped at several locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin, including one on February 18, 2025 where the target vehicle stopped at [ADDRESS REDACTED]. NE, in the city of East Bethel, Anoka County, Minnesota.
On February 25, Detectives with the AHDTF conducted a trash pull and located items commonly associated with the purchase of large quantities of controlled substances. Police sought and obtained a search warrant for the address, which is owned by Seth Lars Engen [DOB REDACTED] hereinafter defendant S. L. E., and his wife Stephanie Ann Engen [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter defendant S. A. E. On June 4, 2025, Detectives with AHDTF sought and obtained a search warrant for the residence listed above and executed that warrant on June 5, 2025. As Officers were clearing the residence they went into the finished basement of the home police located numerous vacuum sealed bags containing suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia laying out in the open.
In addition, Detectives noticed a gun safe which did not have a door. Inside the safe were several firearms and boxes of ammunition. Neither Defendant S. L. E. Or defendant S. A. E. Were home at the time of the search. During a search of the residence police locate numerous items marked as controlled substances, for example labeled THC Gummies contained in heat sealed bags, or appearing to be controlled substances, for example a mason jar containing a waxy substance that appeared to be cannabis concentrate previously known as butane honey oil.
All the seized items were collected and later sent to the Midwest Regional Forensic Laboratory for testing. The results from the lab were as follows: 0001 One large brown paper bag containing multiple bags of green leafy substance (AHNVCTF item DTF- 200) – Determined to be 2911.48 gram(s) ± 0.24 gram(s) containing cannabis. 0002 One brown paper bag containing edible gummies in heat sealed bag (AHNVCTF item DTF-203) – Determined to be 2.911 gram(s) ± 0.005 gram(s) no controlled substances identified (1 of 44 containers analyzed; 1 of 8 gummies analyzed) AND 21.137 gram(s) ± 0.005 gram(s) containing psilocyn (1 of 44 containers analyzed; 8 of 8 gummies analyzed). For all 44 containers the total weight of psilocyn is 930.028 grams.
Psilocyn is a Schedule I Hallucinogen. 0003 One plastic bag containing edible gummies in multiple zip top bags (AHNVCTF item DTF-210) – 5.485 gram(s) ± 0.005 gram(s) delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (1 of 4 bags analyzed; 1 of 57 gummies analyzed). Quantitative analysis was performed but delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was not detected above 0.10% (1 of 4 bags analyzed; 1 of 57 gummies analyzed). 0004 One plastic bag containing loose crystal substance (AHNVCTF item DTF-212) – Determined to be 1.836 gram(s) ± 0.005 gram(s) containing methamphetamine 0005 One plastic bag containing edible gummies in multiple plastic bags (AHNVCTF item DTF-218) – Determined to be 2.954 gram(s) ± 0.06 gram(s) containing cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9- tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Analysis identified CBD as the major cannabinoid (1 of 4 bags analyzed; 1 of 491 gummies analyzed). Analysis identified CBD as the major cannabinoid (1 of 3 bags analyzed; 1 of 512 gummies analyzed). Quantitative analysis was performed but delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was not detected above 0.10% (1 of 3 bags analyzed; 1 of 512 gummies analyzed). 0007 One plastic bag containing brown powder substance in plastic packaging (AHNVCTF item DTF-228) – Determined to be 156.84 gram(s) ± 0.06 gram(s) containing cannabis.
