On March 9, 2026, at approximately 1:46 A.M., University of Minnesota Police Department officers observed a vehicle revving its engine, squealing its tires and traveling at a high rate of speed in an area known for high pedestrian traffic in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Based on observed activity officers followed the vehicle, noting that it failed to stop at more than one stop sign. Officers caught up to the vehicle as it entered a parking lot and attempted to perform a traffic stop with lights and sirens on.
The vehicle traveled in reverse towards the squad cars and then proceeded forward, driving off a small retaining wall adjacent to the parking lot. The vehicle became damaged as a result. After the vehicle became damaged, it continued to flee pursuing officers until it reached a construction zone where it crashed through the closed chain-link fence and into a pile of lumber. The crash disabled the vehicle. Once the vehicle was disabled, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as TANNER DAVID CRANE, [DOB redacted], hereinafter Defendant, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers pursued Defendant yelling "police, stop", but Defendant continued to flee. Officers were able to catch up to Defendant and place him under arrest. After arrest, officers learned that the vehicle Defendant was driving was recently reported stolen. Defendant is currently in custody. The State requests this complaint issue via Order of Detention.
