On or about July 1, 2024, deputies with the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on 75th Street in Princeton, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, on a report of an identity theft. The reporting party, A. L., an adult female fully identified in police reports, was reporting the theft on behalf of her mother, C. V. L., an adult female fully identified in police reports. The deputies arrived at the residence and spoke with the two women, along with C. V. L.’s husband. The three explained to the deputies that HANG, HANG’s husband, and their child were living with C. V. L. And her husband, S. N. L., at the residence before HANG and C. V. L. Had a “falling out,” and HANG and her husband and child [NAME REDACTED], never to return.
Since HANG left, the parties found a pawn receipt with HANG’s full name on it for two pieces of jewelry. The parties checked their safe, and they discovered that several items of jewelry were missing. C. V. L. Stated that only HANG and A. L. Knew that the jewelry was there. Law enforcement later received receipts from PawnAmerica. The receipts documented the pawning of four pieces of jewelry: (1) a chain necklace, (2) a yellow gold ring, (3) a link necklace, and (4) a 14 karat Citizen brand wristwatch with a 23kt bracelet.
A deputy called C. V. L. To identify the materials on the pawn receipts. Another daughter-in-law of C. V. L., named S. N. V., spoke with the deputy. It should be noted that C. V. L. During the investigation has primarily communicated through family members due to a language barrier. S. N. V. Stated that she could only identify the fourth item, a Citizen brand wristwatch/bracelet item as definitely belonging to C. V. L. That pawn receipt lists HANG’s full name, driver’s license information, and physical description.
The pawn receipt lists a date of the ticket as July 7, 2023. The Citizen wristwatch was pawned for $1,201.50. The PawnAmerica location later advised law enforcement that the Citizen wristwatch has been melted as of September of 2023. HANG was convicted on July 15, 2024 of (F) Theft by Swindle in Scott County, Court File No. 70-CR-21- 8397. HANG was unable to be located. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49, intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
