On or about November 23, 2025, Officers from the Columbia Heights Police Department responded to the Bela Hall Event Center in the city of Columbia Heights, Anoka County, Minnesota, on a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and observed multiple people running to their vehicles and leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. Over the radio, an officer reported they were nearly struck by a vehicle. Officers reported there was a crash in the west end of the parking lot. Officers instructed the vehicle to stop, which it did.
When officers were attempting to speak to the driver, the driver quickly reversed, slammed on the brakes, and threw the vehicle in drive, turning towards an officer and began driving forward. The officer had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. The officer reported the vehicle was bearing license plate number LDM994. Officers observed the vehicle traveling northeast on 37th Place. Officers activated their squad lights and sirens and chased after the vehicle. Officers observed the vehicle pull into the Five Hole Sports Bar and Grill parking lot before exiting again and continuing onto Stinson Blvd.
Multiple squad cars continued after the vehicle with their light and sirens activated but the vehicle did not stop. Officers then initiated a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. Officers made contact with the lone male driver, later identified as ALEXANDER KEVIN SIMBANA [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. Officers observed Defendant had bloodshot and watery eyes. Officers could smell the odor of consumed alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath. Officers observed two open and empty beer cans in the vehicle.
Officers secured a search warrant for the Defendant’s blood. Defendant was transported to Unity Hospital in Fridley, where a blood sample was taken.
