Following a Miranda advisory, PUGH said they began arguing the previous morning because she found a condom in the washing machine after washing their sheets. PUGH called RLT and confronted him about infidelity. When RLT arrived home, PUGH said the argument continued. PUGH reported that she was trying to leave with DAR and her six year old son, but RLT blocked the door so she could not leave. PUGH stated that she grabbed a kitchen knife from the drawer because RLT beats her so she may have needed it 2 62-CR-26-2548 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 4/15/2026 to defend herself or her children.
PUGH reported that RLT grabbed the knife by the blade and cut himself. PUGH denied swinging the knife or poking it towards RLT. PUGH also said that at no time did she or RLT hit one another and that the argument was entirely verbal other than when RLT grabbed the knife and tried to take it from her. PUGH told the investigator that she called RLT that morning, and he told her that he was going to call the attorney and recant his statement. The investigator reviewed PUGH’s jail calls. In PUGH’s first call, she expressed frustration to DAR about the case and spoke with DAR about things to get taken care of.
In the second call, PUGH again spoke with DAR and talked about things they both needed to do. RLT was briefly added to the call. RLT initially said that he was pressing charges then later said he would not. In the third call, PUGH spoke with DAR then RLT was added to the call. PUGH asked RLT if he was pressing charges, and RLT repeatedly said he was not. PUGH became angry and yelled at RLT, telling him that he better take care of things because he started this.
