On or about March 3, 2026, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence in Richville, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, upon report that LOGAN ZAHEL MONSON, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant, was out of control. When a deputy arrived, the defendant was outside. The defendant told the deputy that he was just trying to get his stuff; the defendant was not making a lot of sense, which the deputy knew to happen when the defendant was struggling with his mental health. Law enforcement had at least two contacts with the defendant the day before.
Family members told deputies that they had called on March 3 because the defendant had blown up when a parent tried to call human services to get the defendant help. There was no report of an assault, and deputies left. Approximately 15 minutes after deputies cleared the scene, dispatch received a telephone call from the Otter Tail County Court Administrator’s Office stating they were on the telephone with the defendant’s parent, who was looking to get an order for protection, and they could hear the defendant screaming and yelling at the parent.
Court Administration was concerned for the parent’s safety and asked for a welfare check. Upon arrival, a deputy was notified that the defendant had just ran out the other door of the residence. Deputies then spoke with the parties. A deputy spoke with the parent, who was visibly shaken up. The parent said that the defendant said, “I’ll get you, I’ll take you.” The parent appeared so shaken up that the parent could not communicate well. The parent indicated she was fearful of the defendant. Witness #1 told a deputy that the defendant was very angry and vandalizing things in the home while the parent was on the telephone.
Witness #1 observed Witness #2 get between the defendant and the parent. Witness #2 told a deputy that the defendant was agitated; the witness observed the defendant ball up a fist, so Witness #2 got between the defendant and the parent, as the witness did not want the defendant to hit the parent. The parent was able to later tell a second deputy that while the defendant had been yelling at the parent, the defendant punched a hole in the wall. A review of the defendant’s criminal history includes, but is not necessarily limited to: a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order Violation (Otter Tail County, ••-CR-••-••••) conviction 10/06/2025; a Domestic Assault – Fear (Otter Tail County, ••-CR-••-••••) conviction 10/06/2025; an Order for Protection Violation (Otter Tail County, ••-CR-••-••••) conviction 10/06/2025.
