On October 28, 2025, Special Agent Amey assigned to the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force was listening to jail phone calls originating from several inmates at the Sherburne County Jail. During one of the phone calls, he recognized the voice of a known associate of the two inmates, later fully identified as Billie Joe Large [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the Defendant. Special Agent Amey was aware that the Defendant had an outstanding warrant for violating the conditions of his probation. See district court file number 04- CR-20-2107. He sought and obtained a tracking warrant for the cell phone used to contact the other inmates.
Using data supplied from that warrant he tracked the Defendant's location and confirmed that he was staying at is [ADDRESS REDACTED] NW in the City of Nowthen, Anoka County, Minnesota. This is the residence of John Michael Duffy, one of the inmates the Defendant was speaking with in the Sherburne County Jail. On October 31, 2025, SA Amey applied for a search warrant to search the property of [ADDRESS REDACTED]. NW in Nowthen, to find the Defendant and arrest him. During the morning of November 4, 2025, members of the Paul Bunyan Task Force and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant on the property of [ADDRESS REDACTED]. While attempting to arrest the Defendant he fled through the property and was observed trying to conceal something.
Police sought and obtained a third warrant to search the home and vehicles. During a search of the residence and vehicle being driven by the Defendant, police located 1.4 grams of field test positive Methamphetamine next to several handwritten notes on a nightsatnd in one of the bedrooms. The notes were referenced by the Derfendant and Mr. Duffy during his calls with Mr. Duffy. They also discovered 2.6 grams of field test positive methamphetamine in a different bedroom under the bed. Finally, police located two bags of field test positive Methamphetamine in the Mustang being driven by the Defendant.
The total weight of the Methamphetamine discovered in the vehicle was 13 grams.
