On May 4, 2026, the Coon Rapids Police Department responded to a report of theft of patio furniture from The Well Sports Tavern and Grill, "Victim" herein, located at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Coon Rapids, Anoka County. C. J., an employee of Victim reported that sometime overnight between May 2 and May 3, 2026, individuals had stolen patio furniture with a total value of $3,295. Surveillance video was provided to law enforcement which showed a male, later identified as NICHOLAS MARC MCGOVERN [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein, tossing items of patio furniture over the fence in the early morning of May 3. Law enforcement obtained additional surveillance video from a neighboring business, Valvoline, which shows a U-Haul and a white Subaru pull into the parking lot.
Defendant, the driver of the U-Haul, wearing an all-blue jumpsuit, white ballcap and white shoes, gets out and begins loading the back of the truck with the patio furniture. An unidentified male riding a bike joins and assists Defendant. The driver of the Subaru remains in the vehicle. A partial license plate was obtained from the Subaru which was then confirmed using the Flock database as bearing plate # GYX 911 and seen at 89th Ave and University immediately prior to the theft. The U-Haul, a short box truck with a picture of a panda on the side, is also seen but the license plate was not captured on camera.
Law enforcement contacted U-Haul and learned that the suspect truck was likely displaying AZ license plate # [PLATE REDACTED] and had been rented by Defendant on May 2, 2026. Surveillance video was reviewed of the transaction which showed Defendant, wearing the identical outfit as worn during the theft, renting the U- Haul. A female, identified as L. H., was also present. Law enforcement spoke with T. M., the registered owner of the Subaru, who stated that on May 2, 2026, Defendant and L. H. Had asked to use her vehicle to move.
Law enforcement also became aware of another case in St. Paul where Defendant was identified as the suspect and utilized the same rented U-Haul. Law enforcement located Defendant in a parking lot in Fridley. Defendant admitted to using the U-Haul to steal the furniture and agreed to return the items. Victim later confirmed that the furniture was returned.
