On March 7, 2026 at approximately 8:30 A.M., Austin Police Department Officer Sam Schuweiler was dispatched to an apartment located in the 400 block of 2nd Avenue SW in the City of Austin, County of Mower for a report of a boyfriend locking his girlfriend out of their apartment. Officer Schuweiler spoke with the reporting party, Victim A (an adult female) using Google Translator. Victim A stated she has been in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship with her boyfriend, ALDER JAFED CASTRO MARTINEZ, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the defendant, for the past two years.
Victim A said she and the defendant have two children, the oldest of which lives with her mother in Nicaragua, and the youngest (B. Y. R. R., [DOB REDACTED]) lives with Victim A and the defendant. Victim A told Officer Schuweiler that she was invited to a friend’s house to hang out the night before, and she decided to stay overnight because she and the friend had been drinking. Victim A said she messaged the defendant of her plan, and he began sending her insulting messages. Victim A said when she returned home this morning, the defendant would not let her in the house, so she decided to call law enforcement.
While speaking with Officer Schuweiler, Victim A began telling him of past physical abuse that has occurred. Victim A stated that several months ago, the defendant threatened her and their daughter with a knife. Victim A also told Officer Schuweiler that she had everything on her phone, showing how the defendant communicates with her as well as photos of injuries from when the defendant hit her and choked her. Officer Schuweiler and Austin Police Department Officer Nathan Hoefs knocked on the apartment door and spoke with the defendant, whom they identified by his Nicaraguan identification card.
Officer Schuweiler observed over a dozen empty beer cans on a table in the living room area. Officer Schuweiler asked the defendant why he had locked Victim A out of the apartment, and he said he was sleeping and did not hear her knock. Officer Schuweiler then asked the defendant if there had been any physical assaults between himself and Victim A, and he said no. Victim A entered the apartment, and Officer Schuweiler asked the defendant about photos of bruises and injuries that Victim A had on her phone and whether he was responsible for the injuries.
The defendant did not answer but just stared at Victim A. Officer Schuweiler asked the defendant when he last hit Victim A, and he said “about a month or two months ago.” The defendant denied choking Victim A and confirmed he had taken her phone from her but only to look at it, not prevent her from calling for help. Victim A showed Officer Schuweiler four photos of her neck, taken on November 22, 2025, that showed bruising and petechiae on her neck. At that time, officers placed the defendant under arrest, and Officer Hoefs transported him to the Mower County Jail.
