On March 5, 2026, officers were dispatched to a business located in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, based on a report of a domestic assault. Officers arrived and made contact with the reporting party, an adult male identified herein as “Victim.” Victim [NAME REDACTED] in a relationship with JENNIE GABRIEL SHUMPERT [DOB REDACTED], and she was pregnant with his child. That evening, they were on their way to his residence when he asked SHUMPERT to drop him off at his restaurant. This started an argument between them over a previous incident that had occurred at his restaurant.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] told SHUMPERT he no longer wanted to be in a relationship. SHUMPERT then began hitting him and trying to bite him while they were still in the vehicle. At some point, the altercation moved to the street, where SHUMPERT kicked him, and he tried to grab her arms to keep her from scratching and hitting him. Officers observed a fresh scratch under Victim’s eye that was bleeding as well as a small scratch on his left cheek. While officers were finishing taking a statement from Victim, [NAME REDACTED]. SHUMPERT immediately stated that she wanted Victim [NAME REDACTED]. SHUMPERT was arrested, and officers did not observe any visible injuries on her.
Because SHUMPERT was pregnant and requesting medical attention, officers transported her to a hospital. At the hospital, SHUMPERT agreed to speak with police after being advised of her constitutional rights. SHUMPERT admitted that she had been dating Victim and was currently pregnant with his child. SHUMPERT also admitted they had gotten into an argument about the previous incident at his restaurant. She stated that Victim punched her with a closed fist seven or eight times in the face and also kicked her in the stomach.
She stated this entire incident occurred in her car. While SHUMPERT was being examined at the hospital, officers removed her handcuffs. At one point, SHUMPERT asked an officer if she could call her friend to come take her car keys from officers. The officer allowed this, and SHUMPERT’s friend arrived a short time later. SHUMPERT then asked the officer to go outside and get her car keys from his squad. The officer transferred custody of SHUMPERT to a hospital security guard while he did so. When the officer returned, SHUMPERT’s friend was in the room but not SHUMPERT. SHUMPERT’s friend stated she had gone to the restroom, but the officer checked the restroom and SHUMPERT was not there.
The officer spoke to the security officer, who said he had been called out of the room based on a “code blue” incident. The officer contacted SHUMPERT on her friend’s phone, which SHUMPERT had taken when she escaped. SHUMPERT answered but would not return to the hospital unless the officer did not charge her with escape. SHUMPERT has at least two prior qualified domestic violence related incidents in the past 10 years. On January 1, 2025, SHUMPERT was convicted of misdemeanor Assault in the Fifth Degree in court file 27- CR-23-18563. On the same date, SHUMPERT was convicted of felony Assault in the Fourth Degree in court file 27-CR-23-25759. Due to the serious nature of these charges, a warrant is requested so conditions of release can be established.
