On October 24, 2025, an identified employee of a convenience store in Barnesville, Clay County, reported that a male had come into the store the day prior on October 23, 2025, and purchased several lottery tickets with checks that had returned with insufficient funds. The name on the checks was Damon Roy Anderson [DOB REDACTED] (Defendant) and included his Minnesota driver’s license number. Defendant passed a $199.57 check for the purchase of 9 Minnesota Lottery tickets and other items. Then, Defendant passed a $470.00 check for the purchase of 17 Minnesota Lottery tickets.
Later, Defendant passed a $570.00 check for the purchase of 22 Minnesota Lottery tickets. In total, Defendant wrote $1,239.57 in checks to this store on October 23, 2025. An employee had contacted the bank the checks were connected to and learned there were non-sufficient funds in the bank for the purchases. Clay County Deputy Kleckner noted that the male arrived and left in a red Trailblazer bearing Minnesota plates SRG-981. Barnesville police also learned that Defendant had written bad checks and redeemed lottery tickets at another store in Barnesville.
Chief Voxland met with the owner of this store who provided video surveillance that captured Defendant in the store and outside, walking away from the red Trailblazer. Defendant wrote checks totaling $1,157.61 and redeemed some lottery tickets. Scratch-off tickets that Defendant purchased using the bad checks were redeemed for a total of $350.00 cash. Later on October 24, 2025, Clay County deputies assisted Norman County deputies with a vehicle pursuit involving the red Trailblazer. Defendant was found to be driving the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed five check books in the center console, four scratch-off tickets and checkbook in driver’s side visor, and two grocery bags full of lottery tickets. Defendant has several warrants for his arrest in other counties and is currently in custody at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49., intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
