On or about April 29, 2026, Edina officers were dispatched to an automated license plate reader hit on Colorado license plate [PLATE REDACTED] traveling eastbound on West 70th Street near Highway 100 in Edina, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers reviewed information about this hit and saw there was a Keep Our Police Safe (“KOPS”) alert for the vehicle from the Minneapolis airport police. At approximately 11:00 A.M., Edina officers located the vehicle, a black Toyota RAV4 (“the Toyota” herein), traveling westbound on 66th Street from Valley View Road.
Officers positioned their squad cars behind the Toyota and activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The Toyota initially slowed and moved to the right side of the roadway. Officers observed a single male occupant in the driver’s seat who appeared to be wearing a baseball hat and glasses or sunglasses. The Toyota continued to travel westbound on 66th Street. Officers turned on their sirens, and the driver of the Toyota, later identified as MICHAEL THOMAS OLIN (“Defendant” herein), motioned with his hands, indicating that he was moving over.
The Toyota then accelerated to approximately 50 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Officers observed the Toyota cross briefly into the opposite lane of traffic. Officers pursued the Toyota, with their emergency lights and sirens activated, through multiple intersections before terminating pursuit. Officers observed the Toyota turn on Naomi Drive and then lost sight of the Toyota. At approximately 11:06 A.M., officers located the Toyota, abandoned, on the 5100 block of Abercrombie Drive. Inside the Toyota, officers recovered a black backpack containing paperwork bearing Defendant’s name.
Officers also recovered open containers of suspected marijuana and several burnt spoons wrapped in cloth. Officers learned that the Toyota was a rental vehicle, and Defendant was the individual listed as the renter. A nearby homeowner advised that their ring camera captured a person running through multiple yards. The homeowner showed this ring video to officers. The individual seen on the video was wearing a gray hoodie, sunglasses, jeans, and white tennis shoes. A separate homeowner told officers that he saw a male run into the garage of a home on the 5100 block of Abercrombie Drive and then saw the male leave with the homeowner of that home, K. C. Officers contacted K. C., who told them that he had driven an old coworker of his, Defendant, to the Southdale Mall.
Officers also spoke with K. C.’s adult son, L. C., who lives at the home on Abercrombie Drive. L. C. Told officers that their home had security cameras. L. C. Showed officers videos from the security cameras, which showed a man matching the description of Defendant running eastbound through the front yards of K. C.’s neighbors and then running into K. C.’s garage. After a brief time, the video showed K. C. And Defendant leaving K. C.’s home in a sprinter style van. Defendant is seen wearing a gray hoodie and jeans in this video.
