Late in the evening on October 30, 2025, officers from the Mankato Department of Public Safety responded to a report of a domestic incident in the City of Mankato. Complainant, Victim 1, told police that Lavontay Delaney Wallace [DOB REDACTED] threw a bottle at Victim 1, broke Victim 1’s items, and killed Victim 1’s pet. Victim 1 told Officer Cook that Wallace had been living with Victim 1 for the last two weeks because Wallace is otherwise homeless. Victim 1 said Victim 1 and Wallace had argued a little bit earlier and Wallace began yelling in Victim 1’s face.
Victim 1 then went into the kitchen and told Wallace to leave. Victim 1 said Victim 1 grabbed a knife to protect Victim 1 because Victim 1 was becoming afraid of Wallace. Victim 1 said Wallace then threw a liquor bottle at Victim 1’s head, which missed Victim 1, but crashed into the cabinet behind Victim 1. This made Victim 1 extremely afraid. Victim 1 went into Victim 1’s bedroom, locked the door, and called 911. Victim 1 then heard Wallace destroying things and breaking glass. Officer Cook noted there was a lot of water on the floor inside Victim 1’s residence.
Victim 1 said Wallace broke Victim 1’s fish tank, a large tank for a bearded dragon, accessories for both tanks, and Wallace’s own television. Victim 1 estimated the value of the damaged property owned by Victim 1 is more than $500. Officer Cook spoke with Witness 1, Victim 1’s neighbor, who said Witness 1 heard yelling coming from Victim 1’s apartment and things breaking and believed Wallace was assaulting Victim 1. Witness 1 went to Victim 1’s apartment and as Witness 1 went to knock, Wallace was leaving.
Witness 1 said Witness 1 could smell a strong odor of alcohol on Wallace as Wallace left. Officer Cook asked other officers to look for Wallace in the area. Officer Cogswell located Wallace and stopped out with Wallace. As Officer Gelle approached the area where Cogswell and Wallace were located, Gelle saw Wallace make a throwing motion and then Gelle heard and sensed a loud thud on Gelle’s windshield. Gelle observed a sizeable, spider-style break on the driver’s side of Gelle’s windshield. Gelle later found Wallace’s cellphone behind Gelle’s squad car.
The damage will require the squad car to be out of service for an undetermined amount of time so the vehicle’s windshield can be repaired or replaced. Wallace admitted to throwing “a phone, an iPhone 12.” Wallace was convicted of Assault in the Fifth Degree on February 6, 2024, in Court File No. 07-CR-23- 254.
