On January 16, 2026, at approximately 11:21 am, Wright County Deputy Skelton was dispatched to a theft at 1421 7th St E (National Bank of Commerce) in the City of Monticello, Wright County, Minnesota. CMS stated that she was notified by her bank that someone had used her passport with her full name on it and their (suspects) picture in attempt to withdraw $7,000.00 from CMS’s account. CMS indicated the bank denied the withdrawal. CMS stated the bank called her and notified her that the night prior around 5 pm, the suspect, later identified as Stephanie Leigh McCommons [DOB REDACTED] hereinafter defendant, used a fake passport to make a withdrawal from her account.
When the teller asked defendant for a driver’s license due to the large amount of money, defendant appeared to get nervous, stated she needed to go to her car, and left. Deputy Skelton met with ATC, the bank teller during the transaction who confirmed what CMS had stated. ATC added that the defendant looked somewhat disheveled and smelt like marijuana. Pursuant to a search warrant, Deputy Skelton obtained the surveillance footage. On January 22, 2026, Deputy Skelton received a BCA crime alert from Becker Police Department who advised they had an incident with the same female on the same day who went into a different bank and withdrew $17,000. On February 11, 2026, Deputy Skelton received a positive ID for defendant.
Defendant was identified through her Ohio driver’s license. Deputy Skelton also learned that defendant had an active warrant out of North Carolina for the same fraudulent offense and appeared to be part of a statewide operation. The State respectfully requests a warrant given the unlikelihood of defendant appearing for court or complying with a complaint summons given the out of state residence and warrant.
