The cellphone was lying in brush at the southern tip of Birmingham Street’s dead end, which is north of 6th Street East. On April 1, 2025, at approximately 1:00am, investigators met with JKG’s family, including his mother and younger brother. JKG’s mother informed investigators that JKG had come home at approximately 9:00pm on March 31, 2025. JKG’s brother informed officers that JKG left the home later that evening “to smoke” with his friends, who he identified as “JC” and “Jeremy.” JKG’ brother identified the residence of “JC” and “Jeremy” as [ADDRESS REDACTED]., which is approximately three blocks from where JKG was found unresponsive by first responders.
An RMS search was able to identify Jeremy Joe Davila [DOB REDACTED] and JC [DOB REDACTED] as residents of the identified address. Law enforcement extracted data from JKG’s cellphone, which included call history, text messages, GPS locations, and other data. The data contained a recent communication between JKG’s phone and the TextNow number [PHONE REDACTED]. TextNow records showed that the number was generated at 10:03pm on 03/31/2025, and the only IP address associated with the number returned to [ADDRESS REDACTED]. The TextNow number called JKG’s phone at 10:04pm, and the call lasted just over two minutes.
The TextNow number and JKG exchanged multiple texts between 10:07pm and 10:34pm, during which the TextNow number asserted it has a stolen red Kia Seltos and wanted JKG to come “smoke n chill.” Officers recovered a short, one second video sent from the TextNow number showing what appeared to be two handguns held in front of a gray blanket.
