On March 31, 2025, at 11:25 pm, first responders were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive male lying on the sidewalk in front of 1439 6th Street East, St. Paul, Minnesota, Ramsey County. Saint Paul Fire Department medics were the first to arrive and located JKG ([DOB redacted]), lying face up on the sidewalk. Medics observed JKG had a laceration on his right lateral neck with minimal external bleeding. Medics detected JKG had a pulse and transported him via ambulance to Regions Hospital. Lifesaving medical care was provided both by first responders as well as Regions trauma staff, but efforts were unsuccessful.
JKG was declared deceased at 11:54 pm. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner took custody of JKG body and conducted an autopsy. The Medical Examiner identified twenty-two (22) sharp force injuries to JKG’s body. One (1) sharp force injury to the right lateral neck, penetrating soft tissue. The direction of the wound tract was back to front, right to left, and downward. Eighteen (18) sharp force injuries to the upper back Fourteen (14) penetrated the soft tissue of the back Three (3) penetrated the left posterior chest wall One (1) penetrated the left lower lobe of the lung Associated with these injuries was bilateral hemopneumothoraces All wound tracts were back to front and downward Two (2) sharp force injuries to the back of the left upper arm, penetrating soft tissue One (1) sharp force injury to the back of right hand, lacerating superficial layers of the skin Notably, there were no wounds to JKG’s palms, fingers, forearms, or legs.
The cause of death was determined to be multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of death was determined to be homicide. On March 31st, police arrived at the scene at approximately 11:33 pm, after the medics had placed JKG in the ambulance. Due to JKG’s condition, responding officers secured the scene and notified the SPPD homicide division, who immediately initiated an investigation. The caller told police that prior to calling 911, he had just gotten home and observed his ten-year-old daughter was acting strange and saying she was scared. He told her to go to bed, but she again told him she was scared. His daughter then told him she heard yelling outside and saw people. The caller looked outside and saw a person lying on the sidewalk. He went outside to check on the person and tried to wake him up. The person was not responsive, and the caller saw some blood. He called 911 at that time.
The police also spoke with the caller’s ten-year-old daughter. She said she was in her upstairs bedroom when she heard what sounded like young males laughing. She then heard a bunch of yelling and heard a young male call “Help! Help!”. The young girl looked out her window and saw three or four younger males with dark hoodies running north from 6th Street East to Birmingham Street. She also saw a male lying on the ground. She estimated this was between 11:00pm and 11:10pm. Officers at the scene located JKG’s cellphone approximately 20 yards north of where JKG had been found lying by first responders.
